Málaga Is Even More Accessible
Following plans to build a second runway at Málaga airport, the province is enticing even more property investors.
With plans now fully approved to extend Málaga airport, the province is now rated as being one of the most accessible places on mainland Europe.
The construction of the runway is expected to take 28 months, with completion expected December 31st 2009, making Málaga an easy early prediction for the 2010’s property hotspots.
The project is just one of many comprising the €1,000m ‘Plan Málaga’ package, which is designed to improve air traffic flow in and out of Málaga.
Along with the new terminal building, which is already under construction, the €300m project will increase the airport’s current capacity of 37 operations per hour to 72, enabling Málaga to comfortably deal with 20 million passengers a year, compared with the present 13 million.
The new runway will be expansive enough to be used by larger passenger jets such as the Boeing 747 and the new Airbus.
Further plans are set to enhance the appeal of Málaga even further, with Aena, the Spanish Airports Authority, building a tunnel beneath the new runway to allow access for people travelling on the Málaga-Fuengirola railway line, plus another for the AVE high speed train line, which will eventually be extended from Málaga along the western Costa del Sol. This part of the scheme is due for completion by March 2010.
Today, only four Spanish airports have more than one runway, including Madrid and Barcelona, and the decision to bring Málaga in line with these prestigious airports shows that Málaga is rated among the country’s top destinations.
