Costa Cálida - Overview & Guide
Located on Spain’s south-eastern Mediterranean shores, between the provinces of Andalucía and Valencia, lies the region of Murcia. Its 250 km strip of coastline is known as the Costa Cálida or “Warm Coast”.
The area enjoys a temperate climate, mild winters and warm, dry summers with an average annual temperature of about 20C, less than forty days of rain a year and a balmy sea temperature that rarely falls below 18C.
The Costa Calida has long been considered one of the most beautiful and unspoiled coastlines in Spain and recently the World Health Organisation declared Murcia as the region in Spain with the cleanest air.
The landscape is both stunning and diverse featuring beautiful sandy beaches, rugged mountain terrain and lush green countryside that is interspersed with the historically important cites of Murcia, Cartagena and Mazarrón.
Mar Menor or “Little Sea” is a very popular and well known tourist resort. It is located at the northern end of the coastline and is Europe's largest salt-water lagoon created by a 22 km spit of land known as La Manga. In recent years this area has been the focus of much of the region’s property and tourism development. La Manga is very popular with many of Europe’s top footballers due to its excellent football training grounds and facilities.
An ideal place for lovers of outdoor life, Murcia and the Costa Cálida can offer beautiful safe beaches, ideal for water sports enthusiasts, mountain climbing, trekking, horse riding and golfing.
Not surprisingly, the area’s stock has risen dramatically
on the back of improvements to infrastructure, superb property
development and excellent sporting facilities, in particular the
abundance of professionally designed golf course. This has led
a number of stunning golf
resorts on the Costa Calida being constrcuted where you can
now find some very reasonably priced properties.
It now leads the way as one of the most popular areas for Spanish
property buyers and is na ideal place to invest in a holiday home.
An added bonus is the ease of access; visitors are able to fly into Murcia's San Javier airport or the international airport of Alicante, an hour's drive to the north. A new airport at Corvera will open in 2009 to cope with the increasing amount of visitors and, as a privately owned airport, it will attract many of Europe’s low cost airlines.
Compared to the Costa
del Sol, the real estate market of the Costa Cálida
is really in its infancy and thankfully strict planning regulations
have been enforced. New developments are constructed to a high
standard with superb onsite facilities and offer great value for
money when compared to similar completed developments in other
areas of Southern Spain.
